- FADE IN -

(the setting is a room that looks like it's been in use lately, but not in reality. the past few weeks have been quieter. a lone boy sits in the center of the room on a wooden chair with no legs, perched on a milk crate. he is silent, but the atmosphere is broken by the door to the room opening)

(another boy enters and stands in the open doorway, leaning against the door indecisively. he closes the door and walks over to the sofa on the other side of the room and lies down on it, putting his feet up on the end of the couch opposite of his head)

(he looks at the boy sitting in the legless chair)

BOY ON SOFA (warmly, shifting position so his hands are on his knees, and he is ready to stand up): so, should we get back to it?

(the boy on the legless chair looks up, and the faint glimmer of a smile appears on his face [a very small and barely detectable one, but still a smile, nonetheless])

(he stands up but does not go anywhere)
